The situation
British traditional climbing grades combine technical difficulty and danger. Experienced climbers wanted to explore a more consistent approach to proposing and understanding E-grades.
My contribution
REYT worked on the MVP following an approach from Tom Randall, turning a specialist grading model into a tool that could be tested.
The work
Translated the grading approach into a usable tool, combining French technical grades with danger in a proposed E-grade calculation. An MVP made the model something climbers could try and respond to, rather than leaving it as an abstract algorithm.
The result
An MVP made the proposed model accessible to climbers and opened it to community reaction. The delivery created a practical way to test the idea, including where it prompted disagreement.
